How to Bath Your Puppy

Although you might think how hard could bathing a puppy be.  All you need is soap and water right?  Not necessarily.

See below for a specific list.

This is not a complete list and Arizona Goldendoodles does not hold any legal liability, when in doubt please contact your Veterinarian.

Items needed:

Brush

Cotton Balls

Rubber Mat

Bathtub

Shampoo and Conditioner

Towel

1. Brush out your puppy’s coat and remove all mats prior to getting him/her wet.  If you don’t, the mats could get worse and you might be forced to cut them out.

2. Plug his/her ears with cotton balls.

3. Place a non-slip rubber mat on the floor of the tub, sink, or plastic tub.

4. Don’t fill the tub with water or you will have a very wet mess on your hands and your puppy will be sitting in his/her dirt.  Instead, wet your puppy’s coat thoroughly with warm water.

5. Using shampoo that is specifically made for dog’s, work up a good lather around your puppies neck, back, legs, and feet.  Be sure to avoid the head by starting at the neck and working your way down the body.

6. Carefully wash your puppies face with a washcloth, making sure to avoid the eyes and don’t get water in his/her ears.

7.  Rinse your puppies coat thoroughly until all of the soap is gone.

8. If you are going to use a conditioner, follow the same process as with the shampoo.

9. Remove the excess water off of your puppies coat by hand first and then with a towel.  Let the dog shake off the excess, you might want to blow dry his/her coat on the lowest setting being careful not to burn the skin.

10. Carefully remove cotton balls from your puppy’s ears and discard.

11. Once he/she is fully dry, brush out the coat to make sure there aren’t any mats.

12. Reward your puppy with lots of reward and praise so he/she will be excited (or at least willing) to have a bath and grooming in the future.
